Betty Klasel began her serious interest and study of art in 1978; although the desire to portray the beauty and feeling of people, nature, and surroundings has always been waiting to develop.

Her first study began with oil, under the instruction of Dick Turner for many years.  Other workshops with various teachers took her to France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland and several locations in the US.

Study in pastels began approximately seven years ago when she attended three workshops with Bob Rhom.  Pastels are a great medium as there is no drying time and the colors are so vivid.

Her work focuses on intense light and color.   Depicting the way light falls on form celebrates the multitude of subjects found in nature.  The massive palette of color in nature is focused in my work.  People and nature allows her to express her love for all forms of art.  She paints quite realistically, always striving to satisfy her own and her clients desires.

Her works includes a variety of subjects.  Landscapes usually refer to a certain area or location.  Florals are vivid with an attempt to capture her soul.  She loves to do children and the aged. Capturing special mannerisms and/or gestures of these groups of people is the highlight of her interst in her painting.  All her paintings are like her children; parting with them is a teary event.

Painting is always a learning experience, an expression of feelings and a continuing love of art.  It has been a great opportunity for her to share her expressions and paintings with others.

She has won many awards, but the ribbons on the wall in no way mean as much to her as the feeling and pleasure she gets from doing the work and seeing the pleasure in the faces of her clients.  She paints for "herself" and generally not for competition.  They satisfy her soul.  Also she enjoys teaching and sharing her adventures and knowledge with others.

She is a member of the Brazosport Art League, Art League of Bay City, The Central Texas Pastel Society in Temple, and the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas in Houston.
